From Wilderness to Worship: The Heart Behind the Film David

Long before David ever stood before a giant, he stood before God with a song in his heart. That truth is at the center of David, a new animated musical film shaped by faith, perseverance, and worship. In a heartfelt conversation with GodTube’s own Janna Bailey, David director and producer Phil Cunningham shared how this story has been decades in the making and deeply personal to his walk with God.

Phil explained that music is not just part of the film, it is the very heartbeat of it. Scripture tells us David wrote many of the Psalms, pouring out joy, fear, sorrow, and praise with raw honesty. That is why the soundtrack was released first, inviting audiences to feel the spirit of the story before ever seeing a single frame.

Phil’s journey with David began far from Hollywood, while canoeing down the Zambezi River in Africa. Surrounded by creation, he encountered God in a powerful way and was drawn to the words describing David as “a man after God’s own heart.” In that sacred moment, a calling was planted, one that would take years of patience, wilderness seasons, and trust to fulfill.

"For me, that's when I fell in love with God," Phil said.

As he shared with Janna, the film was shaped by community and perseverance. Hundreds of artists across the world came together, walking through setbacks and long seasons of waiting, much like David himself. Phil believes those wilderness moments were not wasted, but necessary.

"It was a community; it was a team that actually managed to get us there," Phil said. "Not one hero, but a group of people who really believed in the vision of the Arc de Triomphe and kept encouraging each other to get there. And mostly, I would say, God is the hero of the story. He carried us when, I think, we were ready to give up. Yeah, there were definitely moments like that, for sure.

At its core, David is an invitation. You do not have to be perfect to walk with God. You can bring Him your fear, your questions, and your praise. Like David, you are invited to live wholeheartedly, trusting the Good Shepherd who walks with you through every battle and every song.

In the film, David, as an adult, is voiced by Christian music superstar Phil Wickham. In the interview, Phil explains why the musician was the perfect person to voice this legendary biblical character in the film.

"We didn't select him because of marketing," Phil said. "We selected him because we found out so many singers actually can't act. But Phil can sing, obviously,  but he's also a great actor. And then, on top of that, he really brings this beautiful energy and humility and spirit of invention, which is what we really wanted to come out of the David character. So, he was like just a perfect fit, almost like he is a modern-day David. And his work ethic is incredible."

Producer Discusses ‘Miracle,’ a Show About God’s Healing, Miraculous Touch

Kimberly Clarke, a producer on the new show Miracle, sat down with GodTube’s Janna Bailey to talk about the faith-based program. The show examines and talks to several people who have experienced God’s miraculous healing touch. Watch the interview to learn more about Miracle, where to watch it and how Kimberly herself was healed and restored by God’s touch.

In Psalms, the Bible is described as a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. It is also a book filled with miracles – from its beginning to its end, encompassing both the Old Testament and the New Testament. God’s word details the parting of the Red Sea, manna falling from the Heavens to feed the Israelites, Jesus turning water into wine, the healing of the sick and demon-possessed and the raising of the dead. Those are just some of the many miracles in the Bible.

However, ask most people, and they would likely say miracles don’t take place anymore. Sure, they may have occurred in biblical times, but they do not happen in today’s day and age, people would argue. However, one new program reveals that, yes, miracles do indeed still occur today.

Kimberly, an executive producer of Miracle, discussed the program and also shared her personal experience of feeling God’s healing in her life after years of suffering. She mentioned that it was this instance that changed her life and perspective, and was ultimately one of the reasons that led her to Miracle.

“In 2018, I had been suffering with a back injury for like 20 years, like a silly accident when I was younger,” she said. “And kind of between, you know, having children and just different things in life, it had gotten really bad, and I had been getting shots in my back. And the doctors checked, they said, ‘Your L-4, L-5 cartilage is gone. And kind of just said, it’s something I have to deal with, or you’re going to have to have surgery one day. And I’m thinking, “Oh gosh, that’s just awful.”

Later in the clip, Kimberly mentions that after receiving this diagnosis, she attended an event where Joanne Moody spoke. It was at that conference that something miraculous happened.

“And at that conference, that little meeting, Jesus healed my back,” she said. “And Joanne prayed for me. It was simple. He did a little inter-healing, and I didn’t even know any of these things were available. And so, my whole life changed in that moment because I experienced Him.”

Almost immediately after experiencing God’s healing touch, Kimberly knew that she had to tell her story, and that ultimately led her to create Miracle. She also went down a path where she met many other people who had experienced God’s healing touch in their lives.

“And so, I just said, ‘We have to tell people. This just has to be told,’” Kimberly said.

Kimberly discusses some of the miraculous and powerful healing stories viewers will see in the show’s first season, specifically mentioning that “God heals in all different ways.”

Meet the Couple Bringing Narnia to Life On Stage: Noah and Nicole Stratton

Noah and Nicole Stratton are the couple responsible for bringing “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” to life on stage. The husband-and-wife team sat down with GodTube’s Janna Bailey to discuss their production and what they hope the audience takes away from the show. Watch the clip to listen to what Noah and Nicole had to say about their stage production and where and how you can see it.

When it comes to the written word, there aren’t many series as popular as C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia.” In terms of popularity and how beloved it is, the only other fantasy series that compares is J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.”  Needless to say, anyone familiar with books at all is likely more than familiar with the Narnia series.

Understanding how much audiences love and adore “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” Noah and Nicole knew how big a challenge it was going to be to bring that classic work to life on the stage.

“So, it was kind of funny, Nicole, my wife, she’s our main artistic director, and she always said, way back in the day, that we would never do Narnia,” Noah said. “Never touch it with a 10-foot pole. All the imagination, all the brilliance of Lewis’ writing, trying to bring that to the stage would be too, too hard. The fans are very passionate about Narnia, and we didn’t want to cause any uproar there. But, you know, never say never. The Lord has a strange way of bringing you around in a lot of ways.”

Later in the interview, Nicole and Noah shared what they hope the audience – those who know Christ and those who do not – takes away from the production.

“I really pray, as I was working on the script, what was really just hitting me, there’s so many amazing messages that Lewis weaves through all of his books,” Nicole said. “But I feel like this one is such that the overcoming sense of that, Jesus Christ has conquered sin and death, and has won the victory, and that is a very strong theme through this.”

“I pray that the power of the Lord, the Holy Spirit, is felt through the whole production but that people really see that Jesus Christ is the answer,” she added. “He has conquered sin and death and has won the victory for us.”

“The point I hope people take away, too, if people already do already know the Lord, is that He’s freed us not just from, it’s an old theological statement, that you’re freed because of what Christ has done for us on the cross and shed His blood,” Noah said. “That we are freed from the punishment of sin in the past. We’re freed from the power of sin in the present, and we’re freed from the presence of sin in the future. So, the joys of that, not just saying, ‘Yeah, He’s done that for me in the past,’ but what it means for me today and what it’s going to mean for me in the future as well. So, I hope audiences take that encouragement with them.”

Filmmakers Reveal Their Goal and Purpose for ‘Light of The World’

The filmmakers behind "The Light of The World" have revealed their goal and purpose for their upcoming film. Those responsible for the animated film about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ sat down and discussed what motivated them to create the movie. Watch the short but powerful clip to hear why they needed to produce "Light of The World."

For every film produced, there must be (or should be) a reason for it to exist. Filmmakers, with their final product, are typically trying to convey a message and get a point across to their intended audience. A film, a book or even a television show that isn't trying to express a specific message or idea is often unreadable and unwatchable, some of the worst you'll encounter.

Filmmakers without a driving, unifying force or idea behind their work will likely fail. Something must motivate them to keep going during those hardships and difficulties that often come when making a movie. The "Light of The World" filmmakers shared what motivated them to make the animated film and what they hope to achieve with this project.

"This film should already exist, and it didn't," Brennan McPherson, "Light of The World" producer, said. "And so, we felt that it was a calling on our lives to make it happen. God's blessed it and has made it happen. It's an extremely powerful tool to share the gospel with the world."

Matt McPherson, an executive producer of "Light of the World," mentioned that he heard God's voice tell him that he would eventually make a film about Jesus. From that point, Matt said doors started opening to make that possible.

While they all want everyone to enjoy "Light of The World," they hope those who view the film don't simply watch it and forget its message. They want those who watch it to become closer to Christ and grow in their faith.

"We're really focused on not only leading people to Christ, but to disciple them and encourage them to get involved in a local church," Matt said.

Colossians 2:6 "As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in him:"

Jonathan Roumie and ‘The Chosen’ Cast Welcomed by Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV welcomed Jonathan Roumie and other “The Chosen” cast members during a meeting in Vatican City. During the powerful encounter, Jonathan says he immediately spotted kindness and charity in the new pope. Watch the short but powerful clip to hear more about Jonathan’s meeting and the hilarious and unexpected gifts he brought for the pope.

“The Chosen,” the television series depicting the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, the world's Savior, has exploded in popularity. Since the program launched in 2017, it has garnered a massive audience, with one article claiming that the show has been viewed by 200 million people across the various online streaming platforms.

After spending several weeks in Italy while filming the crucifixion scenes for season six of the beloved series, Jonathan and his fellow castmates, Elizabeth Tabish, George Xanthis, Vanessa Benavente, as well as Dallas Jenkins, the series creator, met with Pope Leo XIV.

In an interview following the meeting, Jonathan remarked on Pope Leo XIV’s kindness and charity and how he had not seen any episodes of “The Chosen,” even though he is well aware of the series.

“Just the kindness on his face and, and just a, a charity about him that just moved me,” Jonathan said. “It was really, yeah, it was overwhelming at first, and just really, really excited. I didn’t think I would get to meet him this soon.”

While Pope Leo XIV has yet to catch any episodes of “The Chosen,” someone very close to him is familiar with the popular series.

“He hadn’t seen the show that I’m on, but his brother was a fan of it,” Jonathan said. “And so, he’s like, he knew of the show. And I said, ‘Well, we brought some DVDs to help remedy that.’”

Later in the clip, Jonathan stated that he understands the Lord has blessed him with particular talents and put him where he is for a specific reason.

“I believe, and I still believe, that God gave me certain gifts to use, to share with the world and specifically to glorify His name in some way,” he said. “And until I realized that I didn’t really have success, and once I committed my career to Him and in doing so, the entirety of my life, that’s when my life changed.”

Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created.”

Kirk Cameron Introduces and Discusses New Faith-Based Children’s Show ‘Iggy and Mr. Kirk’

Kirk Cameron discusses and introduces his new faith-based children’s show, “Iggy and Mr. Kirk.” The actor, writer and television show host talked to GodTube about his latest show, which is intended for children. Watch the short clip to hear more about the show, Kirk’s reason for creating the program and where and how to watch it.

Hollywood does not typically welcome or celebrate Christian values. Instead, many popular television shows and movies promote thoughts, ideas and values that are diametrically opposed to what Christians think and believe. Often, the ideas found in today’s popular, mainstream culture are downright hostile to Christianity.

Sadly,  some of these ideas have started to trickle into and are being pushed by many children’s programs. Kirk, looking to counter that growing hostility to Christian values in children’s entertainment, created the faith-based children’s series “Iggy and Mr. Kirk.”

Kirk described the show and what kids and families can expect from the new series in the interview.

“It’s almost like we got to go back in time to shows from a long time ago,” he said. “Well, that’s essentially what we’re trying to do with a beautiful new show called “Iggy and Mr. Kirk.” It entertains kids. It ignites their imagination while building their character and their faith.”

Kirk goes on to describe the show as “Mr. Rogers meets Sesame Street, only it’s faith-filled” and “Bible-friendly, and instead of Kermit the Frog, we have Iggy the Iguana.”

The “Growing Pains” actor mentioned why a program like “Iggy and Kirk” is desperately needed today.

“It couldn’t be coming at a better time,” he said. “We want things that are going to encourage our kids and teach them wisdom and build their character but what TV shows do that? I mean, we used to be able to trust Disney shows. But today, we have just about everything so polluted and infiltrated with all of this woke ideology, and all of this, everything from DEI to the purple-hair platoon to everything else and the Alphabet Army infiltrating the values that are being taught to our kids.”

Kirk adds that the series touches on several very important topics that don’t get much attention in many children’s programming, including forgiveness, self-control, teamwork, the importance of family and telling the truth even when it may cost you something.

“Iggy and Mr. Kirk” premieres on March 27, 2025, on Brave+. For more information on the program, click here.

‘House of David’ Actor Michael Iskander on How He Found Acting and His Spiritual Journey

“House of David” actor Michael Iskander shared how he became an actor, his spiritual journey and how his view of the Bible has changed during a wide-ranging interview. Watch the clip to hear what the young man who played David in “House of David” had to say.

“House of David” is an Amazon series that follows the life of the biblical figure as a shepherd boy, his taking down and killing of the Philistine giant Goliath and his anointing as king of Israel. In the show, the shepherd boy and eventual king is played by Michael Iskander. The young man recently sat down and talked about several subjects, including his spiritual journey, what he hopes people take away from the series and how he got into acting.

Michael's story of how he got into acting has to be one of the strangest ways anyone got into anything. As he explains in a clip posted on YouTube, his acting career started when he switched seats in history class as a high school sophomore. After switching seats, he ended up next to one of his buddies who was in the choir.

“And at that time, it happened to be that the director told all the students, ‘Hey, if you guys get some boys to audition for the choir, ‘cause we’re low on boys, then I’ll give you $10.’”

Wanting to help his buddy, Michael auditioned. His friend got the money, and Michael got involved in choir, musicals and acting – and eventually found a career.

Later in the clip, Michael explains that learning to play David changed how he views Scripture. He said that it has become much more real to him since playing the biblical figure who killed Goliath.

“Now, I view it from a point of view as just human beings,” he said. “And so, I put the context of that time, of these people into this story. Like, I was reading the story of Samson with that context, and it puts a whole different perspective on the Bible. I think it makes it that much more interesting to read and discover. Personally, I love it, and it's so fun as an actor for your job to be discovering more about the Bible.”

Michael also mentioned playing David has changed him spiritually. He says that this role has challenged him to rely upon and trust God more and that he understands that the entire reason for the series is to bring glory and honor to His name.

“Reading that every day, it takes a lot of trust in the Lord to do something like this,” he said. ‘Cause there are challenges. There’s a lot of challenges, but to trust Him and to acknowledge Him and to forget the fact that you’re making a TV show, and it’s really fun, and get your makeup and hair; it’s all fun and cool. But the reason is to glorify Him and to honor Him, to put Him first.”
