We all need reminders that the love of God is continual and forever for His children. This video from Housefires - Steadfast Flow is a beautiful voicing of His faithfulness. 

At the start of the song we hear a man singing in a stunning falsetto voice. He is sharing the message about how even in his disobedience and rebellion that Jesus never walked away. He shares that Christ never leaves him in his failures. The chorus sings out repeatedly, “So steadfast, so steadfast. So steadfast, Your love is steadfast.”

The choir of people around singing this anthem reminds our own hearts that we are each on a journey with the Lord. We all have ups and downs in our faith, but He is our firm foundation who never moves or changes. 

We can be confident that He is unchanging and He is an anchor to all who believe in Him. His promise is true and He is with us always. His Holy Spirit indwells the hearts of every believer in Jesus.

As we listen to the repetition of this song, we remember that we need the constant reminder that even though we are sinful and fallen, Jesus is perfect. In His perfection, He does not leave us even though we have sinned, but He Himself came down to earth to become sin for us. 

This gives us the opportunity to have His righteousness. The truth is that we are all broken and imperfect, however in accepting Jesus’ death and resurrection we can have eternal life in Him.

In the book of Lamentations, we read a well-known verse about the steadfast love of the Lord even in the midst of the trials of this life. Through listening to this song and pondering the Scriptures, we can know with full confidence that His steadfast love never fails. 

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

So often we see an unnecessary amount of lights and smoke machines to create an atmosphere of worship. However, Housefires shows us in this video that there is something beautiful about the authenticity of just being gathered with other believers singing and praising the Lord with our instruments. As we reflect on the Holy Spirit meeting with us and resting on us, this is a beautiful invitation for us to draw near to God. We can see the genuine hearts of those in this clip connecting with their Savior in this casual setting. We see blue jeans, hats, and flannel shirts that remind us we can come to God just as we are right now. We do not need to bring a show to Him, just simply our hearts. 

It is also amazing to see such diversity in one room. Housefires models what heaven will be like one day. We see every tribe and nation represented in the book of Revelation. This group of various individuals comes together and encourages our own souls that we are all one in Christ Jesus. The concept of the Holy Spirit filling us is a daily calling of all believers. We have access to the Spirit, but we need to join in with this prayer found within this song, “Fill me up” for the day.

This is not just a song, this is a prayer. These people are greatly seeking God to rest on them and meet them in their worship. God is always with us, but He invites us to draw near to Him and says that He will draw near to us. May this be our prayer too as we witness this peaceful song.

The song You Freed Me, You Saved Me is from Housefires’ second of seven albums released titled How to Start a Housefire Part II. The band was formed in 2014 out of Grace Midtown Church in Atlanta and have worked with other Christian artists to include, Pat Barret (The Way) and Ryan Ellis (Heart of the Father).

In the almost 7-minute video, the listener is transported right into a worship service. The video is filmed in what looks like a screened in porch or building but it is comfy and cozy. There are couches and rugs and tables and a lot of people surrounding the singer and band. The song starts off soft with the lead singer playing his acoustic guitar and someone playing along softly on the piano.

The people in attendance look relaxed as they sway to the music. The lyrics “I’ve got this joy and it won’t let go. I looked in his eyes and it freed my soul. I’ve got this joy and it won’t let go. My soul knows it” are repeated several times. The lead singer then breaks into some ad lib while the crowd and back up singers continue to sing those lyrics.

The next set of lyrics that contain the title are repeated several times after. People in the video have huge smiles, closed eyes and raised hands. You can tell the whole group is in the presence of the Lord. The song finishes as the whole group sings and it simply fades out so the listener can remain in that space for as long as he or she may need to.

Housefire’s YouTube channel states that the band’s goal is to partner with God and “create
artistic expressions of love, worship, and freedom that authentically connect people to God”.

After watching and listening, anyone would agree that this song and video create the perfect atmosphere for one to relax and forget about the worries of this world and render a strong connection with their God.

It is easy to assume that people have goodness in them. However, Scripture makes it clear that we have nothing good except what has been given through Jesus. 

We are all sinful and fall short of God’s standard of perfection. This song’s repetition and the display of worship in this casual room setting remind us that we have nothing to offer, but we have received every blessing in Christ. 

In this song the phrase “There is fullness of joy in Your presence” is repeated continually. Knowing that we have nothing significant to offer could cause us to feel discouraged, however, that is not the point. The meaning is that Jesus has given us forgiveness, transformation, and freedom from the burden of sin. 

 

We can have His joy in our lives and live out the fullness which He has for those who love Him. In knowing our weakness and our inability to bring forth any goodness enables us to appreciate His goodness. 

Maybe you are feeling discouraged about your failures today? May this music video be a reminder of Jesus’ forgiveness. Perhaps you are feeling like you have no joy in your life. As you hear the message of having fullness of joy, be encouraged that Jesus is the reason and the way for us to have this kind of life and attitude each day. The group in the music video is called Housefires, and they are based out of Atlanta's Grace Midtown Church. Housefires is a worship collective with an organic and uplifting sound, and it was formed in 2014.

Their self-titled debut album was issued the year that they were formed, followed in 2015 by Housefires II. In 2023, the band kicked off the year with the January release of their seventh album, How to Start A Housefire. And recently, the worship collective released How to Start A Housefire Part II. The second part of this project is filled with piano ballads and provides true and honest worship.

“Starting a housefire is all about seeing every part of your life set ablaze with the presence of God: the ordinary and the spectacular. Both high and low moments. Your family, your community, your home, your vocation - your whole life consumed with the fiery love of Jesus,” says Housefires member Nate Moore when talking about the new album.

“Every moment on this album was a part of longer times of worship, so some of the songs don't even have a proper start,” shares Housefires member Blake Wiggins. “The recording process was really to press record with a loose setlist and a lot of space to flow between songs and leaders. It's the same thing you'd experience in a house church or a group of people just getting together to worship. No click tracks, no guides, so you really have free rein to just follow wherever God and the room are going.”
