9-30-14 This week we continued our verse by verse walk through the entire epistle of Romans. This twenty-ninth session we concluded looking at chapter 8 (verses 29-39). In this session we looked specifically at the issue of predestination as it relates to the Lord's foreknowledge as well as the wonderful and amazing love of our God! God knew me before I knew Him and yet He loved me. This is a powerful and inspirational study!
It seems that modern culture is turning full circle back to its pagan origins as it embraces once more the notion that all religions are one, that tolerance is necessary for all beliefs that are non-exclusive,and that all of life is essentially diviine. The Christian Church might benefit from its own past when early theologians like Irenaeus confronted the Gnostic sects and defeated them by a sound presentation of the Word of God. Watch as Pastor MacLaren examines the first major confrontation with paganism by the gospel in the missionary travels of the apostle Paul as recorded in Acts 14. This sermon was preached at First Presbyterian Church in Perkasie, Pennsylvania (USA). First Church is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R. Scott MacLaren is the pastor.
He had just chosen his disciples.... In following Him you will have trials and tribulations. No one can give to you like God can give to you. If you are not willing to take up your cross and carry it you are not worthy of God. John the Baptist was in prison. The disciples were following Jesus and didn't even have any food to eat. They trusted in Christ and not their circumstances.
Every thing that was created was from God. If you don't know Christ Jesus then you don't know God. God has to reveal who Jesus is to you, not your parents or even the pastor can tell or teach you who he is. You have to answer to God yourself for the sins and the good works that you have done here on earth.
Lunar calendar goes by the moon. And the solar calendar goes by the sun. Christ Jesus would not ask you to do something for Him, without already knowing the out come for you. We are becoming excepting of sin. We don't see things thru till the end. All these things that come about in life, is to make you come to God to teach you about his rest. Instead of us finding the rest from God we want to keep holding on to the things that bring you comfort in the moment. Jesus says rest in me. Rest means no work no labor. When you learn to rest in Jesus those other things don't bother you.
If God has forgiven us we have to be able to forgive others.
How determined are you? Are you as determined as Jesus going through the pain of the whipping post? Are you as determined as He was carrying the cross up the hill to Golgotha? Are you as determined as Him when He surrendered, or abandoned, His will to the Father. Find out what determination it takes to live a determined life.
Jesus said, "my house is a house of prayer." So why are most churches non-praying places? Jim Cymbala shares how his church the Brooklyn Tabernacle became a praying church in New York. He also shares his own journey of having a wayward child, and how God spoke to him through that experience.
