Hello and welcome to Salem UMC!!! We are sorry for the delay in this sermon as we are not sure why it didn't post last week (11/16)... So, as the title reads... It's about time!!! Enjoy. :)
The great Italian Renaissance artist Raphael painted a beautiful fresco in the Vatican (1509-1511) called "The School of Athens." It depicted the great classic Greek philosophers in various poses, with Plato and Aristotle at the center. The Apostle Paul would face their descendents in the Areopagus where Socrates famously drank the hemlock and died. Paul presented a masterful argument for the truth of the gospel, proclaiming that God would judge the world through the resurrected Jesus Christ. Watch as Pastor MacLaren shows what we may learn from the speech when dealing with those who have no respect for the authority of Scripture. This sermon was presented at First Presbyterian Church of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, on November 23, 2014. First Church is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R. Scott MacLaren is the pastor.
It is God's desire to prosper you. But He will prosper you according to His plan. Part of that plan includes giving as Pastor Jeff shares God's Plan to Prosper You, but you must be an active participant in your willingness to give. The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:7-11 (NIV)
If the Scriptures are the Word of God, what do they say about the "Christ"? Is it really true that the "Christ" of Israel must suffer and die on a cross, only to be raised from the dead on the third day? Such an idea seemed offensive, but the apostle Paul demonstrated this by reasoning directly from the texts of Moses and the Prophets. Do you find such arguments compelling? Watch as Pastor MacLaren shows how this message has indeed turned the world upside down, and is the only true revolution! This sermon was preached at First Presbyterian Church in Perkasie, Pennsylvania on November 16, 2014. First Church is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R. Scott MacLaren is the pastor.
Pastor Dunbar discusses the generous master in the Parable of the Talents and how God, as our "master" invites us to do what is right with everything he has entrusted us with so that we can share in his happiness with the promise of everlasting life with him in Heaven.
At the literal crux of human history, Christ hangs on a tree. Jesus’ death for our sins has become in some cases so commonplace that we miss the brutality of it, and at the same time we forget how it perfectly demonstrates the love of God for us. Pastor Mark Driscoll teaches about the Cross, including some aspects of what Jesus’ death accomplished in this sermon from Doctrine – What Christians Should Believe.
Jesus Christ came on a rescue mission to save us. He came to live the life that we couldn’t and die the death we should. Because of this wonderful news, Christians get to live lives redeemed by Jesus to reflect His glory to the world. Pastor Mark Driscoll teaches on the incredible doctrine of Incarnation in this sermon from Doctrine – What Christians Should Believe.
Pastor Gudgel discusses the Eternal Gospel and how this message will reach world-wide. Believers will be joyful while non-believers will tremble in fear as Judgment Day approaches. Only those who have the name of the Lamb and His Father on their foreheads will sing a new song of eternal life.
