Best friends, a cat, and a bird are inseparable. It’s common knowledge that cats tend to be the mortal enemies of birds. But not for this unlikely pair of best pals.
One might think it’s akin to Sylvester and Tweetie Bird in an alternate universe. In fact, this cat and bird get along so well, they play tag together and even eat dinner together. Their mom says it all started in 2020 when she brought a lovebird named Chicken home. Then she saw a post about a big fluffy orange tabby named Frankie in need of a forever home.
Their human Row Oliver said, “His foster mom said, “‘Oh, he loves birds. He likes watching the bird channel.’” So let’s see how it goes. It could be really good or really bad.” About a year later, a cat named Pugsley was added to the family as well. From that moment on, both cats were bonded to Chicken. They make quite the trio. They played together, ate together, and even napped side by side.
Sadly, Frank got really sick and crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving Pugsley and Chicken to mourn their loss.
“Unfortunately, I had the trio only for a little under a year. Frank got really sick.
It was terrible, and we were really worried about Chicken. That’s when Pugsley and Chicken really mourned together. They were just cuddling they were really leaning on each other,” Row said.
The pair comforted one another in ways their human mom couldn’t. Now the pair are inseparable. In fact, Chicken gets anxious when Pugsley uses the litterbox for a minute too long. The feeling seems to be mutual because Pugsley likes to climb inside Chicken’s birdcage. Their mom wonders if they don’t understand that one is a bird and one is a cat. But all best friends come in different shapes, sizes, and species.
This heartwarming story reminds me how animals have some of the same emotions as us. They need love and friendship too. But I don’t think I’ll be bringing a bird home as a friend for my four cats. Chances are it wouldn’t be special like Pugsley and Chicken.
