The Reverend Dr. Thomas Sovik, V.D.M.
At a time when the boldest of preaching is again necessary, at age 73 Dr. Sovik has come out of retirement to return as "Guardian of the Word of God."
Now serving as senior pastor of the First Puritan Assembly (Reformed) of Columbus, Dr. Sovik was awarded a Ph.D. in historical research and critical analysis for his work on the Protestant Reformation predating Martin Luther, served in military service as a Master Chaplain, taught Church history for nearly four decades (subsequently retiring from the university as professor emeritus), served as an evaluator for international grant-funding in the areas of philosophy, ethics, and religion studies, authored seven books and a bookshelf of publications in peer-reviewed journals, has had the privilege of three preaching tours in Europe during which he gave 97 presentations in five countries, and is regularly called as a visiting minister to preach on the topic of forgiveness and reconciliation after the disunion of the marriage Covenant, having now delivered 53 sermons in eight states.
He has served as a premarital counselor for the Department of Health & Human Services and is certified by the American Association of Christian Counselors and the International Christian Counselors Association in Premarital, Marital, and Divorce Counseling; his particular areas of specialization are "Abuse, Trauma, and the Emotionally Destructive Marriage," "Affairs and Sexual Betrayal," and "Coaching for Sexual and Spiritual Intimacy in Marriage." He is well recognized in the Christian-counseling community for his massive study on Thomas Baxter's writings on adultery, divorce, and remarriage, which appears in four volumes: A Covenant which Can Be Neither Undone Nor Altered, Seasons of the Fall and of Excuses Rejected, Adultery Shared and the Recourse Demanded, and Forgiveness and Reconciliation in the Manner of the Father.
