The Holy Bible vs. Donald Trump

I wrote this commentary shortly before election time. But I haven’t had a lot of time to make videos, so I’m posting it now. Sorry. I take a look at Donald Trump’s remarks about his Christianity, especially his glib take on Communion. What is Communion exactly? According to Trump and Protestants, it’s a little cracker and little wine. According to the Lamb of God, it’s His own body and blood. It is our divine Savior.

I review some scripture on this subject, including the Torah sacrifices, the divine dwelling in the Tabernacle and examples of eating and drinking the Word of God before the Word became flesh. At a time when our nation has wandered far from trust in the Lord, perhaps Communion holds the key in its forgiveness.

Hillary Clinton vs. The Holy Bible

Here’s another one I wrote before the election. Though not a study of Clinton’s policies or scandals, it’s a study of something she does right before God: She is still married to the same man. She has never turned to divorce and remarriage as countless Christians have.

Does she merely have a political marriage anyway? Could what some view as the flaw in her marriage actually be its strength? Do we actually have imperial marriages too? Despite her many failings, Hillary Clinton gives us a good example of being a “doer of the word.”

"Confessing Christ Crucified," Rev. R S MacLaren, First OPC Perkasie PA

The gospel of Jesus disrupts the pious notions of who Jesus is by affirming both his divine nature and mission ("the Christ of God"), and his humiliating crucifixion. A crucified Jesus does not appeal to majority expectations about the nature of God's work. Indeed, the very nature of this confession demands self-denial and cross-bearing by those who make it. Watch as Pastor MacLaren explains what Jesus wanted his disciples to keep quiet!!

Romans 8:35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Je

2 Corinthians 12:11 - 21

11 I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing. 12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

Romans 8:29-35

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

Trinity - Big Theological Words

We'll be continuing our series on Big Theological Words with "Trinity" - a word/concept/reality that is simultaneously central to Christian faith and unfathomably mysterious.
As you have opportunity, consider speaking/reflecting/praying the following Trinitarian prayer, an Eastern Orthodox formula adapted by theologian NT Wright:

Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth: Set up your kingdom in our midst.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God: Have mercy on me, a sinner.
Holy Spirit, breath of the living God: Renew me and all the world.
