Seeds and Weeds Children's Sermon from Matthew 13

In this message, we will take a look at the parable of the weeds sewn among the plants. The focus for children will be the importance of letting God judge hearts, and recognizing that only He knows our true intentions. We are to love Him and love one another.

“Let the Farmer Judge”
Children’s Sermon on the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
Main Objective: On the outset, the parable of the weeds sewn among the seed might seem a bit odd, or even negative and judgmental. Separate the “bad seeds”, and throw them away to be burned? Does this mean we ought to shun those who are not deemed good enough? On the contrary, the parable teaches quite the opposite. The farmer will dictate which plants to keep and which to throw away. God will judge the hearts of man. It is for Him to determine, not us. The object of this lesson is to communicate to children that we have difficulty discerning things by sight, and it is not our job to do so. We pray that all would come to know Christ, and while we recognize that some will not, we acknowledge God as the ultimate judge.

Children’s Prayer Moment
Dear God,
Thank you for your grace
You have sent your son for all people
Help us to love as you do
To not judge one another
And bring others to a knowledge of you
Thank you for your love
We love you, God!
In Jesus name, Amen!

Matthew 13:23-30 The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares
He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field, 25 but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. 26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. 27 And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ So the servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, “Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’” -Matthew 13:24-30

Seek Justice: Exodus 2

The oppression of the Egyptians has gone too far and it is time for God to begin executing His plan for deliverance, so Moses is born. Moses is a man that cannot stand quietly, idly by and watch injustice being done to others. Three times he stands up for the powerless. Who do we know that is oppressed? How do we stand up for them? #justice #injustice #defend #standup #speakup #help #oppressed #weak #powerless #strong #powerful #power #authority #abuse

You Should Of Listen

Pastor Lupe Garcia preaches You Should Of Listen. People don't want to hear the truth. Then when they have to pay for their sins then they want to cry out. Stop taking Gods grace for granite, before you have to pay for every bit of your sin with no one to rescue.

Civil Disobedience

Jacob & his sons have all passed away by this time and the children of Israel had multiplied greatly. The new Pharaoh was afraid of this large group of people and he sought to suppress them. He first submitted them to hard labor but they continued to grow into a large nation just as the Lord promised to Abraham hundreds of years before. When that did not work, he told the midwives to kill all the baby boys at birth. But the midwives feared the Lord and they did not do it. When confronted by Pharaoh they lied to him. The Lord rewarded the midwives for their faith by giving them a family of their own. We then go to the scriptures to find out how the Lord feels about civil disobedience. #civildisobedience #civics #God #bible #scripture #history #lockdowns #government #statelaws #federallaws #laws #law #thelaw #communiities #christians #obey #disobey

Parable of the Sower Children's Sermon

In this children's message, kids will hear the story of the sower and the seeds, and learn about the importance of receiving the Word of God with a heart of "good soil" that is ready to produce spiritual fruit.

Main Objective: The Parable of the Sower and the Seeds might better be called the Parable of soil, as the focus really ought to be on how we receive the Word of God as “good soil.” What does that mean, though, and how do we allow our hearts to be that good soil? If the adults who first heard this parable in the New Testament had a hard time understanding it, there should be no surprise if it’s tough for kids to swallow. With this message, we look at the parable itself and how it relates to our experiences today. The focus is on understanding that God works in and through us, as long as we allow Him to do so.
Law/Gospel Theme: The parable of the sower invites us to hear God’s Word and respond to the Gospel. We can reject the good news, or get stuck in our distractions, or we can allow Scripture to impact us. The important thing to understand is that God does the work. Soil doesn’t have to work necessarily, in order to produce roots and plants that grow. In the same way, letting the Bible bless our lives is not about us, but about letting the Word influence our lives.
Optional Materials: Soil; rocks; weeds; seeds; cups/pots; Bible; optional: bird toy or picture, Cheerios.
Bible Passage: Matthew 13:1-23 (also found in Mark 4 and Luke 8)
Message Note: As with most messages, the details of how you choose to communicate this are adaptable and should cater to timing as well as to your audience and student needs. Use your judgment and ideas to best serve students.
