Why would college students spend part of their winter break in Staten Island do "mud-out" and demolition work in homes flooded by Hurricane Sandy? In this video, participants share what their "hard labor experience" was like -- and how the opportunity to share the love of Christ with residents made it all worth it.

Many of the young girls that are victimized by a life of sex trafficking are runaways. These girls are approached by a trafficker/pimp within 48 hours of hitting the streets. They are no match for the evil plans these predators have devised. The vast majority of these victims do not have a safe place to return to if they are rescued. Refuge of Light seeks to provide these girls a hope and a future for a new life; so THIS year we will begin the construction of a safe home for these young victims. PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING!! Archie Boone's spoken word piece echoes the theme from Johnnie Moore's latest book "Dirty God: Jesus in the Trenches" (https://tinyurl.com/a973wac). In the book Moore draws on both Scripture and his extensive experience with other cultures and religions to show how the God of the Bible is unique in his willingness to be near us in all of our messiness. Moore outlines the central importance of the doctrine of grace while introducing readers to a humble and human Jesus who reaches out to us at our worst and pulls us up to our best. The Spoken Word piece by Archie Boone, echoes how many times we have this idea that God is far away and the church is too good, and would never come near those of us who are "dirty." But it's the opposite, God did come near and he dwelt among us. Praise God for that!
