Jesus Is the Light for Your Life, Part 10 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 110)

TEXT: John 8:12-32
J.C. Ryle said, "The power of self-deception in the unconverted man is infinite."

Harriet Tubman is perhaps the most well-known conductor of the Underground Railroad. She spent years risking her life to smuggle slaves off of plantations in the South and take them to the North where they would be free. She once said, "I freed a thousand slaves, but I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves."

Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John Piper said, "It is utterly foolish for a Christian to envy the so-called freedom of those who pitch themselves out the skyscraper window of sin and exult for a season in the exhilaration of free-fall greed, or free-fall drugs, or free-fall fame, or free-fall sex, or free-fall power, or free-fall luxury oblivious of Jesus. All this freedom is like a vapor, but those who trust in Jesus, and treasure him above all, will mount up with wings like eagles, and be glad — a thousand years from now. They will be free indeed. Jesus is not just giving you information in this message. He is giving you an invitation. Trust him. Treasure him. He died and he rose again to make you free indeed."

Jesus Is the Light for Your Life, Part 9 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 109)

TEXT: John 8:12-32
Randolph Tasker said, "[Continuing in Jesus' words means] welcoming it, being at home with it, and living with it so continuously that it becomes part of your life -- a permanent influence and stimulus in every fresh advance in goodness and holiness."

When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior, one of the questions that is often raised is: How does one know for sure that that is what they have done? In the midst of His discussion with the Jewish religious leaders in John 8, we must remember that many people were gathered around listening. While the leaders struggled to come to terms with Jesus' words, the Bible tells us that "as Jesus spake these words, many believed on him."

Knowing this, Jesus wants to make sure that these new believers understand what it really means to believe on Him. "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed." Believing in Jesus is not just verbal or mental assent to His teachings. There are many people who believe that what Jesus taught is good. We can call this crowd the "Jesus is a good guy" crowd. But a person who truly believes in Jesus is a part of the "Jesus is God" crowd. A good guy does not demand that you change your lifestyle because you agree with him; but God does. And that is what believing in Jesus ultimately looks like -- a change in the way you live....
