This is a song that filled the lips of young people in Norway when the Jesus-Revolution swept through their ranks. I have speeded up this recording to make it more like the way we sang it then. Personally I have always felt it should have a Calypso-style arrangement and backing.
This recording is from Vaskvik media, and used with their permission, but I have superimposed it onto a Riff-station analysis in case anyone wants to try playing and singing it.
English text:
When I my life to Jesus gave,
My sin was swallowed in His grave
But I myself was raised to live abundantly
A transformation of the soul
A life made wholesome and made whole
And all my frame
He set a-singing, glad and free:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
My sin was sunk without a trace at Golgotha!
The gaudy baubles of this life
Gave only bitterness and strife
And lonely sorrow all the
hollow wage of sin.
But God has made all things anew
Made good His promise tried and true:
My life lit up when I invited Jesus in.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
My sin was sunk without a trace at Golgotha!
To thank you for your wond'rous deed
More than a lifetime I will need
How can my heart hope to
express my joyful praise?
My life I place at your command
Right till the end, when I will stand
In Paradise and see your face through endless days
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
My sin was sunk without a trace at Golgotha!
