In October 2011, nurse practitioners Mary Wysochansky and Anna Stinchcum founded and opened the Sumter Faith Clinic — a free clinic to treat the uninsured and underinsured in Americus, Ga., a community Wysochansky says has been particularly hard-hit by the economy. Fueled solely by donations, the facility provides basic health care and spiritual support to Sumter County residents. "The spiritual benefits are wonderful," says patient Regina K. Benson. "They will pray with you. They treat you as a person rather than a number.
"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (Jn. 3:5-6)
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (Mt. 6:26) "Truly I say unto you, as you did it to one of these the least of my brothers, you did it to me." (Mt. 25:40)
“The good thief turned to Jesus and said: ‘Lord; remember me when you come into your kingdom.’" And Jesus answered, "This day you shall be with me in paradise." (Lk.23:42)
"The Lord is close to the broken- hearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit." (Ps. 34:18)
"... Have mercy on us O Lord ... that our eyes may be opened". (Ps. 34:18) "Truly I say unto you, as you did it to one of these the least of my brothers, you did it to me." (Mt. 25:40)
We are not on this earth for the fulfillment of self. We are here to reveal the kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven here on earth; to bear witness to the reality that because we also abide in the “secret place of the Most High” we can turn pain and suffering into happiness and joy.
Empty of self, empty of the world, we live lives of loving kindness and compassion. We are the leaven in the Bread of Life; earthen vessels, freely offered and poured out; emptied that others may have New Life.
“I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly.” (Jn. 10:10)
“You traverse the oceans to gain a single proselyte. Then you heap burdens upon him which he cannot carry and you do not lift a finger to help him.” (Mt. 23:15)
“The kingdom of God does not come in such a way as to be seen. No one will say, 'Look, here it is!' or, 'There it is!' because the Kingdom of God is within you." (Lk. 17:20)
