When thirteen-year-old Lucy Hornberger has a strange encounter with a vendor at a flea market, she embarks on a terrifying adventure.

Whether she likes it or not, she has been chosen to protect a magical artifact called a Spectrescope which allows her to see ghosts. The evil Prince Damathian is desperate to obtain the Spectrescope because of the ancient magic that created it. Lucy and her best friend Taylor Williams must protect the artifact from the evil ghosts sent to retrieve it. With several other magical artifacts which were in the old trunk she purchased from the vendor, Lucy finds she has access to powers she never knew existed.
