In the last few weeks, I’ve faced a lot of challenges. My grandmother’s health continues to decline, and our family was in a vehicle accident on the way to one of my speaking trips. Thankfully, everyone in our vehicle was completely fine. No one even got a scratch! It was a true miracle. Yet, we did lose our trailer and a lot of my books for sale. We didn’t see that coming! And yet while things in our life change, there’s a constant that remains unchanging: God’s unfailing love and faithfulness. Like a beacon of light piercing through the darkest storm clouds, God’s love offers warmth and light to our souls so we can navigate through the shadowed valleys of life. Do you need God’s unfailing love and faithfulness today? We all do.
The Depth of God’s Love
Imagine, if you will, a love so profound, so vast, that it encompasses every facet of your existence. It’s a love that sees beyond the surface, reaching into the deepest recesses of our hearts, and understanding our most hidden fears, desires, and dreams. This is the essence of God’s love for us—a love that never fails, never gives up, and never runs out. It’s the kind of love that sent His only Son to bridge the chasm of sin and separation, ensuring that no one is beyond the reach of His grace.
The Certainty of His Faithfulness
In a world where promises are often broken and commitments waver, the faithfulness of God stands as a pillar of certainty. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever—a steadfast guardian whose promises are as reliable as the dawn following the darkest night. His faithfulness is our anchor in the tumultuous seas of life, a source of stability when the ground beneath us seems to give way. It’s a faithfulness that not only promises to be with us but also works all things together for our good.
God as Our Refuge
Life, in its unpredictable ebb and flow, can sometimes feel like a relentless storm. Waves of grief, disappointment, and fear threaten to overwhelm us. Yet, in the midst of these tempests, there is a haven—a place of safety and rest. God invites us to turn to Him as our refuge, a shelter from the storm. He beckons us to find solace in His presence, to lay down our burdens at His feet, and to find rest for our weary souls.
Turning to God as our refuge means trusting in His character and His promises. It means believing that He is who He says He is—a protector, a provider, and a loving Father. When we seek refuge in Him, we’re not simply escaping our troubles; we’re embracing a relationship with the One who knows us completely and loves us unconditionally.
The Journey to the Refuge
How, then, do we find our way to this refuge? It begins with a step—a step of faith. It’s the decision to trust not in our own strength but in His. It’s the choice to believe His promises, to rest in His love, and to anchor ourselves in His faithfulness.
Prayer becomes the path, a heartfelt dialogue that draws us closer to Him. The Scriptures serve as our map, guiding us through the truths of His character and His plans for us. And in this journey, we’re not alone. God’s Spirit accompanies us, providing comfort, guidance, and the assurance of His presence.
Embracing the Refuge
As we embrace God as our refuge, we find ourselves enveloped in peace. It’s a peace that transcends understanding, guarding our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. In the shelter of His love, we discover a joy that’s not dependent on our circumstances—a joy rooted in the knowledge that we are loved, valued, and held by the One who created us.
In the refuge of God’s love and faithfulness, we are reminded that no storm is too great, no night too dark. His love is the constant that holds us, His faithfulness the foundation that sustains us. And in the embrace of our Heavenly Father, we find the strength to face each day, buoyed by the certainty of His unfailing love and faithfulness.
So let us turn to Him, our refuge and strength, and find rest in the shadow of His wings. For in His presence, we are home—a place where love never fails, and faithfulness never ends.

We find ourselves still in the wilderness with Moses leading the Israelites. The journey has been eventful, with the construction of the Tabernacle, a census, and plenty of complaints from the people. In Numbers 19, the focus is on purification and the consequences of defilement. God’s command regarding the water of purification sets a tone for the seriousness of sin and the need for cleansing.
Moving forward, we witness Moses and Aaron’s unwavering faith and humility when faced with the rebellious nature of the Israelites. Even in moments of frustration, they turn to God, falling face down before the Tabernacle. However, a moment of disobedience costs Moses and Aaron their entry into the Promised Land.
Amidst the challenges, victories arise, and we see the Israelites overcoming obstacles, including the refusal of passage by Edom and the passing of leadership from Aaron to his son Eleazar. The chapter ends on a positive note, with the people singing praises as they travel.

Rebellion surfaces throughout the reading—whether in Moses striking the rock, the Israelites’ complaints, or King Sihon’s opposition. This term’s application provides insight into the human tendency to resist authority.

The various trials faced by the Israelites, including plagues, ground openings, and even poisonous snakes, all serve a purpose—to turn the people back to God. Revelation 3:19-20 reinforces the concept of discipline rooted in love. As God reproves and disciplines those He loves, His desire is for us to be zealous and repentant. Just as a parent disciplines a child for their betterment, God desires our repentance and a restored relationship with Him. “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent,” God says.
