Being a first-time father can be an exciting and nerve-wracking time. Try to relax and enjoy the journey. Reading books, asking questions, having wonderful mentors, and talking to God are some of the best ways to prepare and gain confidence for the journey ahead. With your friends, family, and God in your life, you will soon learn how to be the best dad you can be.

What do you do when your child never grows up? When they keep making the same poor choices and not learning from them? When they expect you to keep bailing them out or helping them? Or maybe you always bail them out and help them, which isn't healthy for either of you. How do you learn to set boundaries and stop enabling your adult child? 

Fellow moms, we need this time with God, and we need to read Scripture. The Bible shows us the right path to take, reveals God’s truth and wisdom, teaches us to live like Jesus, and prompts us to love our family and those around us.

God's plans are always better. He isn't done with us and uses our kids to help in the process. Parenting can teach us dependence on Him, patience, selflessness, grace, and humility.

The first time I felt this presence was when our son woke up in the night unable to breathe due to a very acute and abrupt bout of croup. His life was at risk and there was nothing I could do to change his circumstances. As I got in the ambulance with my child, I felt something unexpected: peace! This was the type of scenario that I had dreaded, yet here I was in it, not falling to pieces. God was with me.

I'm here to remind you that our job as parents is to shepherd our kids, not keep up with the culture. The goal is to be faithful to our families and not successful. 

If kids are a blessing and having a house full of them is a gift, we are going to have to structure our lives a little differently than the cultural norm. This is not to say we all have to raise bunches of kids to follow the Bible, but maybe that will be exactly what God calls you to do with your life, and it will be the hardest job you'll ever be assigned for God's glory.
