Music Review: "Fireproof" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music Reviews

It's finally here! The complete Motion Picture Soundtrack to 2008's biggest indie film, Fireproof. One question though. Don't soundtracks normally come out with the release of the film theatrically? You would think so. Even though the film and it's soundtrack were probably among the biggest of last year, one might question why this soundtrack wasn't available last year. Who knows, I guess that's why I write reviews and don't work on the A&R team at a major label!
Though most of the soundtrack was available either on the respective artists albums prior releases or for download individually on iTunes, this marks the first time that you can get the artists' songs from the movie along with the original film score. While I wouldn't imagine that most people like instrumentals, I actually enjoyed listening to these. Funny thing is, I heard the film's score before seeing the actual film last year!
Of the six artist tracks on here, this comes as no surprise that John Waller's hit song, "While I'm Waiting" is on my favorites list. Waller, an artist who we have long followed is one of those who we believe is severely underrated. While radio all but ignored his previous attempts to chart, the Fireproof film gave John the boost (and the audience) that he truly deserves. The song's placement in the emotional climax of the film only solidifies this as one of the more memorable songs of the 2000's.
Warren Barfield's "Love Is Not A Fight" also remains a top favorite of mine. Since listening to it for the first time in early 2008, I knew (even before the film's release) that this song was going to find familiarity in the lives of fellow married believers alike. Since it began it's run on radio, I think the song has been a good reminder of how we're to
approach our marriage. Love's not a fight, but definitely something worth fighting for!
Casting Crowns' hit song "Slow Fade" fit in perfectly with the film's story, rounding out the film's soundtrack. An emotional, but thought-provoking song, definitely gets you thinking about ways you can truly fireproof your marriage!
Closing Thoughts:
Overall, this is a great album to sit back and listen to but many ask the question, is it worth buying if you already have the Fireproof mini-soundtrack released last year on iTunes or perhaps on John Waller's April 2009 release, While I'm Waiting? Probably not.
But if you enjoyed the film's score (composed beautifully by Mark Willard) and haven't yet bought the mini-soundtrack, then this album might be worth picking up. It's definitely worth taking a listen.
